On Sunday August 2, 2009, the 7-1 Hamilton Ironmen defeated the 6-2 Sault Marie Sabercats, 29-6 in the Adams Divisional playoff game at McMaster's Les Prince Field. Hamilton did not waste anytime finding the endzone, as DB Cody Lynch returned the opening kickoff for the first major. Hamilton's special teams also contributed as they recovered the ensuing kickoff and marched down the field for a Mike DiCroce field goal. QB Ryan Brady continued to improve, throwing TD strikes to recievers Nathan Lane, and Josh Pratt. While RB Dan Cialini with the help of his offensive line pounded 100+ yards on the ground. The Ironmen defence continued to show why they are one of the top defenses in the province bending but not breaking to the air assault offense of QB Tassone and the Sabercats. LB Tom Klinger, and FS Tanner Gruba recorded interceptions for the cause, while the rest of the defence assisted with multiple fourth down stops.
Junior Varsity
The Mississauga Warriors came out and fought like champions but it slipped away from them on a long time consuming drive 80 yard drive in the 4th quarter by the Ironmen. The game started well for the Warriors on the first play from scrimmage, Kason Davis broke through the Ironmen defense and ran for a 70 yard touchdown. The Ironmen answered on the next possession, marching down the field and scored a major on a short touchdown run by Micheal Smith. The Ironmen Defense then settled down, and tightened the noose on the Warriors offense. Leading the way was Greg Zaitz, Mark Fidani, Steve Pieterse, Domenic Bellardini, Melvin Baughan and Renato Rossi. The Warriors defence also came to play a physical game and shut down the Ironmen offense till the half. Leading the way for the Warriors was Mitchell Winters, Phillip Boroniec, Lester Ross and Orrette Gray. Halftime score was Ironmen 7 Warriors 7
The 3rd Quarter continued to be a defensive struggle with the only score coming off a punt single from Daniel Ferraro. Starting in the 4th quarter, the Ironmen defence pressured the Warriors quarterback, which led to an interception return by Mark Fidani down inside the Warriors 10 yard line. The Ironmen were unable to score a touchdown against a tough Warriors defence and conceded with a field goal. On the next Warriors possession, running back Moodie Sanjay was able to break outside and dash for a big gain. Then on a fourth and short, a gutsy play call from the Warriors bench kept the drive alive. The drive was completed by an excellent one yard run by Corey Ross. Score was Warriors 14 Ironmen 10. The Ironmen offensive line took control of the game and the clock and scored with less than a minute to go on another tough run by Micheal Smith. The offensive charge was led by Joey Spano, Steve Mburanumwe, John Maddelena, Dylan Bernardi and Jamie Lalonde. Ironmen 17 Warriors 14.
Hats off to the Warriors for a great game at a wonderful venue, McMaster's Les Prince Field and we wish all your players well.

"The Peewee Ironmen finished a very successful season on Saturday, 8/1 in London, losing a hard fought battle to the Falcons, 48 to 15. Jordan Brucculeri (St. Thomas More) lead the offense with 2 touchdowns and Nigel Applewhaite (Westdale) lead the rushing with 86 yards. Tyler Noble (W. H. Ballard) was successful with both of his TD conversions. Devin Joseph (Bishop Ryan) returned the ball for 93 yards over 3 kick-off returns. The offense played a good game but came up against a tough London defence and were held to just a couple of TDs. Santino Gallo (St. Mark) continued his excellent performance as a kicker after being named an "OVFL Player of the Week" for the final regular season week. He has averaged 42.3 yards per kick-off. Defensively the Ironmen had a very busy day at the office trying to keep the Falcon offense off the board. Taylor Gradwell (Sherwood) lead the Defense with 13 tackles and 7 assists with Josh Bainbridge (Sherwood) being close behind with 9 and 5. Eric Ickas (Saltfleet) managed to snag the only QB sack for the Ironmen. The Peewee Ironmen wish their Junior and Senior Varsity clubmates the best of luck as they work toward the Championships and thank their families and fans for their support this year and look forward to another successful season in 2010."

Hamilton defense kept the game close which eventually lead to a 4th quarter touchdown run by Daniel DiCroce. The score was enough to seal the victory for the hometown team.

The Hamilton Varsity Ironmen improved to 7-1 with another victory in their last league game of the season. Hamilton defeated a Brantford squad short of numbers 57 – 6, and continued to dominate on both sides of the ball. The offense led by much improved QB Ryan Brady, did not waste any time scoring with long TD receptions by Mike Kloosterman, and by Mike DiCroce . The Ironmen were also successful running the football by committee, with backs Kotar, Cialini, McGuiggan, and Carvhalo all scoring majors, and Silvestri, and Lumsden both having a positive impact on the Ironmen ground game. The offensive line lead by Brown, Arnold, and Provincial All-Star Kevin Malcolm continued to roll, consistently creating large holes, and giving the QB ample time to throw. Back up QB Jesse Mathews saw action leading two TD drives, and plunging through the endzone on one of them to contribute to the cause. On the defensive side of the ball standout corner Steve Ventresca, snagged two interceptions, running one back 60 yards for the score, while fellow bookend Cody Lynch and teammate Tanner Gruba also picked off Brantford's QB, which saw the Ironmen secondary come within one interception of beating the OVFL team interception record. LB’s Anthony Bak, Adam Tubman and DT Dragan Kunac were forced to anchor the defensive front seven, with all-star LB Thomas Klinger out with medical issues for his second straight week. The defence – on all but one drive in which they appeared to be sleeping, man handled the Brantford offence and lived up to their reputation as having the stingiest defence in the league.

Congratulations to JV Head Coach Ken McGuire on being named Hamilton's Volunteer Coach of the Year!!

Brief mention in this article from the Hamilton Mountain news. Read Here.
Coach Ken's response : "What a tribute to the Ironmen Organization this is. I understand that they give it to one person, but it really belongs to all of us - coaches, executive, volunteers and players past and present. This is an honour that falls on all of us, it is wonderful to be involved in such a successful organization - think of it - 10 years of a winning tradition in football. No way could one person make this happen, it takes a team to make it work."

Senior Ironmen Final Score : Ironmen 9 Cumberland Panthers 3
A perhaps "over confident" Junior Ironmen squad showed up in Georgetown looking for an easy win. The score at halftime was 8-0 Ironmen on a single point by Domenic Bellardini and the only major score was a 41 yard defensive touchdown by Conner Hitchcock.
Georgetown showed some grit and determination but it wasn't enough as the Hamilton squad came out in the second half and scored two majors, one rushing touchdown by Jordan Galway and a touchdown pass to Zach Lascelle. Final score Ironmen 23 Georgetown Crimson Tide 0.
