Reminder to keep Sunday, August 29th open for our Awards Banquet held at Michelangelo's.
Just one week after heading down to London and defeating the #3 ranked Falcons, the Ironmen boarded a bus for a 10 hour trek to take on the #1 ranked Sault Ste Marie Sabercats. The Cats defeated the Ironmen 8-7 at their home in double overtime earlier this season, and were favoured to repeat their efforts.
However, the Ironmen planned a different ending to what may possibly turn out to be a fairytale ending to their 2010 season. With all the distractions of league politics, major injuries, and previous internal strife no one could fathom that the team would survive in the most competitive league in the province. But there they were, over 800kms from home with what felt like everything to lose, and everything to prove. Saturdays game lived up to all its hype and anticipation, but when the dust finally settled the Ironmen were on the winning side of a 21-16 contest. The Ironmen opened up the scoring with a field goal by Julien Hooker, but the Sabercats arial attack answered right back finding broken coverage in the Ironmen secondary and outfighting the Ironmen on jump balls to score two quick majors and generate a 16-3 first quarter lead.
The Ironmen then turned to their own air attack led by QB Zach Lascelle who found multiple receivers including Andrew Shultz, Mike Hayes, and Jordan Rebello, before finding Curtis Pryce on a 30 yard hitch and go for the touchdown to close the gap to 16-10 at the half. The second half started much like the first with the Ironmen driving the ball into Cats territory and Hooker splitting the uprights for 3 more points. The Sabercats who have struggled kicking all year attempted to punt the ball through the end zone for a single only to have rookie LB Renato Rossi pick up a blocked punt and sprint 80 plus yard for the major and eventual game winner. The Sabercats had a late chance to go ahead only to have a pass intercepted by Rossi to finish the game. "I'm proud of the team and the determination they showed. Anytime you fall behind by two touchdowns to a premier team like the Soo the result is usually unfavourable. If revenge is the motivation it's working and the team has been given enough fuel to prove something to the OVFL" commented coach Underhill.
The Ironmen will now face long time rival Essex Ravens for the Conference Finals at the Toronto Rogers Center on Sunday August 15th @ 7:00pm.
You may pre-purchase Tickets on-line for $10
Tickets will be available at the gate for $15
We will rent buses for everyone interested @ $15.00 per person, as long as we can fill up 57 seats for each bus to cover the cost. This includes round trip and parking etc.
Please email me to let me know if you are interested ASAP.
SPREAD THE WORD!!!!! Come and cheer on our Senior Boys!!!!
The last time the two teams met last year the Ironmen won 27-24 in overtime.

The JV Hamilton Ironmen visited the Niagara Spears last Saturday in OVFL playoff action. The Ironmen were hoping to keep their playoff run alive as they faced a tough Niagara team who did not want to end their season at home. Both teams started the game getting a feel for each other until Domenic Bellardini (Bishop Tonnos H.S.) put the Ironmen ahead with a 37 yard field goal. The Spears responded with two touchdowns and a field goal to go ahead 16-3 at halftime.
But the Ironmen were not ready to give up on their season; quarterback Quinn Spera (Sherwood H.S.) handed the ball off to Bellardini who gave the Spears a steady dose of ground and pound. Bellardini scored Hamilton’s first touchdown and pulled the Ironmen within six points. Hamilton’s defense stepped up in the 3rd quarter, led by Bellardini, Melvin Baughan (Sherwood H.S.), Mark Fidani (Bishop Tonnos H.S.), and Taylor Gradwell (Sherwood H.S.), and did not allow Niagara to score and putting Hamilton’s offense in good field position. On Hamilton’s ensuing offensive drive Spera scored on a quarterback sneak to put the Ironmen in front 17-16.
Unfortunately it was not Hamilton’s day as the 4th quarter bounces did not go their way. Niagara came back with three 4th quarter touchdowns to pull ahead and crush the Ironmen’s hopes of advancing to the Conference finals. The Spears won 37-17 and will advance to the Conference finals next week at the Rogers Centre to face the Cambridge Lions.
Hamilton’s head coach Ken McGuire and his coaching staff are extremely proud of the way their team responded in the 2nd half to come from behind. Even though it was not enough to pull out a victory, the Ironmen played physical Hamilton football. After the game, coach McGuire horseshoed his troops and reminded them of a great season they had and to be proud of their accomplishments.
The coaching staff would like to congratulate and wish the best of luck to the players who will be leaving the JV squad, their presence and leadership helped their teammates grow.

We would like to ask all Ironmen, family and friends if they could come out to support our Varsity team this Sunday August 15th at the Rogers Center. They will be playing the Essex Ravens. We know that when the Ravens travel, they always have huge fan support regardless of where they play. We need to be the better crowd !!!!!!!.... lets show them that our fan support is strong in Hamilton!!!! Everyone's participation is very much needed to help these boys come home as Conference Champions! We are trying to to organize buses to transport all those interested for a charge of apprx $15 each. [admission not included] This will cover your trip to the Rogers Center and back.
Please e-mail me if you are interested no later than Tuesday. The game will be@ 7pm.

Well, the PeeWwee Ironmen fought a hard game and did not just bow out without a strong fight, we were down only 1-0 at halftime. In the second half a few untimely penalties put us in 3rd a long a few times.Mississauga played a good game and ended up wearing our defence down.
Our defence turned in the best performance of the year and should be praised for their effort.
The game ended 24 - 0 for the Warriors. I would like to take this time to thank all the players for their hard work
throughout the season and also like to thank the parents for their efforts on getting the players to practice all season long.
To my coaches, guys thank you, all of you committed your time and effort and helped make the kids better players.
We were the youngest team in the league and still competed with the best in the league, next year we return the most players ever in peewee since we started.
I would also like to commend the JV and Senior teams for their wins over the weekend, both the players and coaches on each team ....Well Done!!
Good Luck in your games this weekend ....GOOOO Ironmen!!!!!!
Coach Derek
